Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 20, 2026
Codex Usage processes only the data required to display your Codex usage limits. Most processing occurs locally in your browser.
The publisher does not receive your ChatGPT authentication information, account ID, quota data, conversations, prompts, generated responses, source code, files, browsing history, passwords, API keys, or payment information.
Data processed by the extension
When you open the extension, it requests your current ChatGPT session from chatgpt.com/api/auth/session and your Codex quota information from chatgpt.com/backend-api/wham/usage.
A short-lived access token and active ChatGPT account ID are temporarily held in the extension service worker and used only to request quota information from chatgpt.com over HTTPS.
This authentication information is not saved to Chrome storage, sent to the publisher, or used for any other purpose.
Data stored locally
The extension may store the following information in chrome.storage.local:
- normalized quota percentages and usage-window durations;
- quota reset times and the time of the latest successful update;
- refresh and activation preferences;
- temporary status information needed for sign-in recovery and correct extension operation.
This information remains on your device and is removed when you uninstall the extension or clear its local storage.
Data the extension does not access
The extension does not access or collect:
- conversations, prompts, responses, or source code;
- files, browsing history, or unrelated website content;
- passwords, API keys, payment information, or complete account profiles;
- browser cookies through the Chrome cookies permission.
The extension does not use content scripts and does not inspect the page currently open in your browser.
Network requests and sharing
Automatic extension runtime requests are limited to the chatgpt.com services required to retrieve your session and Codex quota.
If you select Share, the extension shows an inline view where you can copy prepared status text, a generated 1200×630 PNG, or the public install link to your clipboard. Each copy happens only after your click. The prepared text and image can include the remaining percentage, active quota window, reset context, and public install URL shown in the Share view. They never include ChatGPT authentication information, account identifiers, prompts, conversations, or source code. The extension does not open social-network composers or invoke your operating system's share sheet.
The extension does not use advertising, analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, cloud synchronization, a publisher-operated backend, or remotely hosted code.
Authentication and quota information is sent only to OpenAI's chatgpt.com service as required to provide the extension's core functionality. It is not shared with the publisher or any other party.
Optional uninstall feedback
After uninstalling the extension, you may be shown an optional feedback page.
If you submit feedback, the text you enter and the submission time are sent to Google Forms, stored in a linked Google Sheet, and made available to the publisher.
The form does not ask for or automatically collect your email address. Any personal information included in the feedback text is provided voluntarily. Please do not submit passwords, authentication information, financial information, or other sensitive data.
Feedback is used only to understand problems, improve the extension, and respond to support requests when contact information is voluntarily provided. Feedback is not sold or used for advertising or profiling.
Google processes submitted feedback as the provider of Google Forms and Google Sheets.
Optional website analytics
The public Product, usage guide, Welcome, and Support pages offer optional website analytics through Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. These services are separate from the Chrome extension and do not run inside the extension.
The website does not load Google Analytics or Microsoft Clarity until you select Accept in the website's privacy choices. If you decline, neither service is loaded. The Privacy Policy and Uninstall pages do not load these analytics tools.
If accepted, Google Analytics may process page views, Chrome Web Store link clicks, device and browser information, approximate location derived from IP address, and interaction events to help measure website use. Microsoft Clarity may process page interactions, such as clicks and scrolling, to help identify usability problems. The publisher uses this information only to improve the product website and launch materials, not for advertising or profiling.
Your choice is saved locally in your browser. You can change it at any time by selecting Privacy choices on the Product, usage guide, Welcome, or Support page. Google and Microsoft process accepted analytics data under their own privacy terms.
Retention and user controls
Temporary ChatGPT authentication information is discarded after the quota request finishes or when the extension service worker stops.
Locally stored extension data remains on your device until you clear it or uninstall the extension.
Submitted feedback is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to review and improve the extension. You may request deletion of identifiable feedback by contacting the publisher and providing enough information to locate the response.
Chrome Web Store compliance
The use of user data by Codex Usage complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Changes
If the extension's data practices materially change, this policy, the Chrome Web Store disclosures, and the effective date will be updated before the changed behavior is released.
